Residential Training

Windhorse offers opportunities for residential training in durations ranging from days to years. Some people choose to come a day or two early and/or stay later around formal retreat schedules. Others like to visit the center for several days just to ground or “reset” their practice amid the daily flow of work, shared meals and formal programming. For all stays up to several weeks, there is a short-term stay application process that introduces newer people to the spirit of training at Windhorse. This application also serves to clarify expectations regarding one’s involvement while staying onsite, and provides a channel for exchanging any additional information that may enhance the experience of living in a dharma community.

In brief, our practice is grounded in the Buddhist Precepts. We are a vegetarian center, so no meat of any kind is permitted onsite. Windhorse is an active dharma community so, unless other arrangements have been worked out in advance, everyone staying here will be expected to take part in the work and formal practice schedule of the day. Our intent is to establish a safe and inspiring place of practice for all who come, and with this in mind, we expect that anyone staying here will refrain from using illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products on the premises, and that their interactions with others and the internet will be within the spirit of the precepts.

Work Practice occurs Wednesday to Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm.
Lunch is provided Wednesday to Sunday.

For more in-depth residential training over periods up to a year or more, a more comprehensive application process is in place. If possible, open this conversation with the teachers directly. Otherwise, use the contact information below.
